1月 9, 2026, Schlösschen im Kurpark Bad Nenndorf

It stands in one of the most beautiful spots in Bad Nenndorf's spa park: the small castle – built in 1806 in the Neoclassical style. Initially, the building served as the summer residence of Landgrave Wilhelm I, the future Elector. However, just two years later, King Jérôme moved in. Napoleon's brother subsequently held many lively celebrations here – earning him the nickname "King Merry." From 1866 onward, the rooms served as lodgings for prominent spa guests. In 1891, the facade was given a triangular gable, and the romantic attic rooms disappeared. In the following years, several reading and writing rooms, a library, and a small museum were created on the ground floor. Today, the small castle can be described as a "house for special occasions": Couples can exchange vows in style in the specially furnished wedding room – and then celebrate extensively on-site. The building not only houses a café but also festive rooms that can be rented exclusively. And those who wish can spend truly special nights in the two double rooms or the suite on the upper floor – for example, after readings or classical concerts that regularly take place in the garden hall. Outside the small castle, by the way, stand two old stone bathtubs. They are relics from the 18th century – the time when bathing began in Nenndorf. Allegedly, there were once six such tubs. The whereabouts of the other four, however, remain unknown. Source: https://deister-erleben.de/schloesschen-im-kurpark/

The open-air museum is located on the site of the former Rodenberg Castle, which was later converted into a palace. This "museum island" is surrounded by a moat and houses the Ständehaus, the only surviving building of the old palace, which was badly damaged by fire in 1859. In the Ständehaus there is an exciting exhibition to discover that brings the history of the region to life.

The later manor emerged from one or more farms. The two-story manor house is striking, surrounded by a wide moat and accessible via three bridges. The basement and ground floor are made of quarry stone masonry - largely unplastered - while the high upper floor is a half-timbered building with plastered compartments. The building was probably built in the 16th century. As a half-timbered building, it is one of the older manor houses in the Calenberger Land. Beginning of the 17th century. The (first) renovations have been carried out, which is indicated by a bay window on the east side designed in the Renaissance style with "1611" as the year of construction. In 1866, further renovations were carried out in the neo-Gothic style, with parts of the external masonry being massively replaced and the stone stair tower, a gallery, a bay window and a turret being added. The manor includes a spacious park with old trees. The avenue that begins behind the park and leads to the Munzeler Mark forest is remarkable. The manor goes back to property owned by the Counts of Schaumburg, who gave it out as a fiefdom. This was associated with a seat in the knight's curia of the Calenberg state estates (state parliament) and exemption from the sovereign's service obligations. In 1743 Georg Reinhard Langwerth v. Simmern, ancestor of the current owners, the manor. Source: https://www.barsinghausen.de/portal/seiten/wichtringhausen-903000177-20002.html

The moated castle shell de, near Hanover, located in the valley between Deister and Süntel, was built between 1529 and 1548 as a four-winged complex. It is a typical example of an early Renaissance building in the Weser area. The outstanding art-historical value of the castle lies in the original structure of the 16th century. The moated castle and the courtyard buildings are listed buildings and have been extensively restored over the past thirty years. The entire facility and the associated agriculture have been family-owned for over 400 years. Source: https://schloss-huelsede.de/das-schloss/

In the outdoor area of the open-air museum are the fortress towers around the castle wall, which were only uncovered in 2000. After more than four years, the Förderverein Schloss Rodenberg e. V. in autumn 2004 the excavation and partial restoration of the two artillery towers and their weirs on the castle wall. Parts of a castle fortification of the Counts of Holstein and Schaumburg from the largely unexplored transitional period between the late Middle Ages and early modern times were excavated. Due to its state of preservation and the architectural details of the fortress (including the staircase in the thickness of the wall and the casemate on the side of the wall in the bastion), the monument protection authorities describe the complex as "unique at least for Northern Germany and of monument preservation value as well as particularly suitable for the history and change in military technology requirements of the late Middle Ages up to the early modern period". The laying of the foundation stone for the moated castle Hülsede took place in the early 16th century. With its four-leaf structure, it is a typical example of Weser Renaissance palaces. Today, the picturesque castle can be rented for events or weddings. A part of the castle courtyard can be visited independently. More information: https://schloss-huelsede.de/

It is in one of the loveliest spots in Bad Nenndorf's spa gardens: the little castle - built in 1806 in the style of classicism. The building initially served as the electoral summer residence for Landgrave Wilhelm I, who later became Elector. But just two years later, King Jérôme moved in here. From then on, Napoleon's brother celebrated many happy parties here - which earned him the nickname "King Lustik". From 1866 the rooms were used as lodgings by prominent spa guests. In 1891 the façade received a triangular gable and the romantic attic rooms disappeared. In the years that followed, several reading and writing rooms, a library and a small museum were built on the ground floor. Today, the castle can be described as a "house for special occasions": You can tie the knot in style in the specially furnished wedding room - and then celebrate extensively on site. Because the building not only houses a café, but also festive rooms that can be rented exclusively. And if you want, you can spend very special nights in the two double rooms or the suite on the upper floor - for example after readings or classical concerts, which take place regularly in the garden hall. By the way, there are two old stone bathtubs outside in front of the castle. They are leftovers from the 18th century - the time when bathing began in Nenndorf. The Estates House is the only surviving building of the former castle. It lies on an island surrounded by the water-bearing moat. Originally it was the Palas within the castle complex, which presented itself as an almost closed four-wing complex. In the years 2000 to 2004 the Förderverein Schloss Rodenberg e. V. excavations at the former fortifications of Rodenberg Castle. The remains of the hexagonal bastion and the circular tower as well as two weirs were uncovered. The reconstructed structures of the fortifications are also part of the open-air museum, which opened in 2005, as are the ramparts of the castle, the Estates House as part of the castle ruins and the information boards that have been set up. The park-like facility is freely accessible. The fenced-in remains of the bastion and the circular tower can be visited on Sunday tours during the summer months. The Heisterburg or Hoysburg auf dem Deister is a fortification that was built in the 10th to 11th centuries as a royal court near Feggendorf (district of Lauenau) in Lower Saxony. The Heisterburg on the Deister is one of the Franconian courts, which were initially considered to be Roman castles and only later turned out to be a royal court. The berm (a flat area between ramparts and ditches) was 2-2½ m wider at the Heisterburg than in Roman camps and forts, even if the defense (with ramparts, ditches, towers or gates) is reminiscent of that of a Limes fort. In addition, a rectangular defensive tower was found in the south-west corner of the courtyard, which jumped inward, but was not completely excavated. The castle is a must-see when crossing Rodenberg. At the ditch around it you will find many ducks (feeding forbidden) and behind that is a park with a playground.

In a city fire, the castle burned down except for the Ständehaus. Today, this exact building still stands and houses the local history museum. Rodenberg Castle used to be a moated castle and even today the small, idyllic peninsula is worth a visit. https://www.museumslandschaft-rodenberg.de/freilichtmuseum/ [...] Under the honorary direction of Erich K. Schales, a mighty hexagonal bastion from the beginning of the 16th century, together with the weir attached to it, was excavated and partially walled up. A protruding roof resting on external steel supports, a protective roof over the weir, as well as grids and fences protect the facility in the long term. At the same time, a round tower (Rondell) built around 1480, as well as an interlocking weir, was excavated and a roof was provided after the masonry had been renovated. [...]

Old castle complex where, apart from a few remains of the wall, there are no more ruins. However, the wall of the wall and the moat in front of the castle can be seen very well.
