Rötteln Castle is an imposing castle ruin near Lörrach, which was expanded in the Middle Ages into one of the most powerful fortresses in southwest Germany. The castle was the ancestral seat of the Margraves of Hachberg-Sausenberg and served as an administrative center before being damaged in the Thirty Years' War and later almost completely destroyed. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and landmark of the Wiesental valley, offering insights into the historical defensive architecture alongside its two climbable towers with a museum and a preserved bastion.
