Very special kind.

As a memorial to the countless war dead, such places - usually referred to as "war cemeteries" or "soldiers' cemeteries", sometimes also "cemeteries of honor" - are still very important today. "Now, Lord, you let your servant depart in peace, as you have said..." says the so-called "Hymn of Simeon" (Luke's Gospel, Chapter 2, Verse 29). However, the many people buried here did not depart in peace, but became victims of war and an inhuman tyranny. The most important and at the same time everlasting function of soldiers' cemeteries or cemeteries of honor or war cemeteries is therefore to keep the memory of this suffering alive and to remind each generation anew (!) of the need to maintain lasting peace.

A picturesque old town with narrow, winding streets, Renaissance fountains, numerous Baroque buildings and beautiful half-timbered houses is worth exploring in the old Danube town of Munderkingen.

This battle took place during the War of the Spanish Succession on July 31, 1703 between French and Habsburg troops. Duke Christian Heinrich of Hanover was killed in the process. Today a plaque commemorates that bloody battle.

The lion on the pillar of the market fountain is the symbol of the government that oversees what is happening in the city. That's why he carries the royal symbols - the coat of arms of the city and the coat of arms of Austria - in his paws. During the Fasnet period, the well-known fountain jump takes place here. Two bachelors throw themselves into the cold water of the fountain while cheering. After that, they are allowed to kiss every girl who is there.
