Before 1180, Egloffstein Castle can be identified as the ancestral home of the Lords of Egloffstein. The fortified church with its thick walls and pointed towers is really impressive. The reason for the establishment in the 15th century were previous raids by the Nuremberg troops. Effeltrich has the best preserved fortified church in Upper Franconia. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the mighty dancing linden tree with its sweeping canopy of leaves. Definitely worth seeing!
