The name Sammarei derives from the popular variant of Sancta Maria. The original chapel, dating from before 1619 (a chapel was already mentioned in 1521), has been preserved; Isaak Bader built the present Baroque church around this chapel.

The market square, a north-south facing, densely built-up street square, probably dating back to the High Middle Ages, lies at the foot of the Schlossberg.

At 446 meters above sea level, it is the highest elevation in the municipality of Beutelsbach. From here, you have a wonderful view. The cross comes from the parish church of St. George, which was replaced during the church renovation and placed here.
