The St. Johann Preparatory College was founded in 1926 by the Steyler Missionaries (SVD - Societas Verbi Divini). Under the name "Missionskolleg St. Johann", it initially served as a school with boarding school for the education and training of students who had committed themselves to becoming members of the order. From the 1950s onwards, the school gradually developed into a state-recognized high school with a rapidly growing number of students. In 1981, Father Herbert Schneider SVD took over the management of the school and shaped and designed it significantly for 20 years. By admitting girls, introducing the upper school, expanding the catchment area and extensive structural extensions, the school grew rapidly and established itself in the school landscape of Upper Swabia. Under Klaus Schneiderhan, who led the school from 2001 to 2022, numerous modernization measures were carried out, digitalization was expanded and the range of languages expanded. The introduction of a follow-up course for career changers from grade 7 onwards offers an additional perspective for the future. In 2008, the founding of the "St. Johann Blönried Preparatory College School Foundation" marked the end of the more than eighty-year sponsorship of the Steyler Missionaries, who, however, remain connected to the school to this day. In 2022, Marc Grünbaum will take over the management of the school. From January 1, 2023, the St. Johann Preparatory College will be run by the Catholic Free School Foundation of the Diocese of Rottenburg Stuttgart. It is a church foundation under public law. The local advisory board to the Board of Trustees regulates the concerns of our school locally.
