This was also the case with the Kocherburg, which was first mentioned in 1300 as "castrum Kochenburch". However, it is probably much older. Its name goes back to the Lords of Kochen, who defended the interests of the Ellwangen monastery in the region as servants as early as 1147. In the middle of the 14th century, the military character of the castle was lost. The Kocherburg served the Ellwangen bailiffs primarily as the seat of the administrative district of the same name, "Amt Kochenburg". From the Kocher-Jagst cycle path you should definitely take the short detour to Kapfenburg. The inner courtyard is freely accessible and the castle is simply worth seeing. Since 1999, the international music school academy at Schloss Kapfenberg has had its headquarters here. We were lucky enough to be accompanied by classical music as we toured the farm. A complete tour of the castle is only possible as part of a guided tour.

For several centuries, Agnesburg belonged to a chain of other castles, such as Hohenstaufen, Lauterburg, Rosenstein, Kapfenburg, Schenkenstein and Flochberg. The owners of this castle were probably the lords of Westhusen. The last descendant was the daughter Agnes. She had no offspring. Their estate of 1800 acres then went to the parish and church.
