The history of the castle goes back to the Romans, who lived here before the Limes around 100 AD. have built a fortification. To protect against the Hungarian cavalry that came here around 930, a fortification made of large stone blocks was built, the remains of which can still be seen today. A moated castle in Kislau was first mentioned in 1038. Kislau Castle was then designed in 1721 by Damian Hugo von Schönborn, Prince-Bishop of Speyer, as a hunting lodge in the baroque style.
