The Espenhain Combine was a major industrial enterprise in the GDR, primarily active in lignite mining and processing. It operated near Leipzig, in the Espenhain region, and played an important role in the energy supply and industrial development of the GDR. The combine comprised various facilities for the extraction, processing, and utilization of lignite, including open-cast mines, power plants, and chemical plants. After reunification, the combine was largely shut down or restructured due to the decline in lignite mining in the region.
