The grain windmill on the Ochtruper Berg is one of the last Dutch-style windmills of the "Wallholländer" type. Wallholländer means that the windmill stands on a wall, the hull is rigid and only the cap with the wings is turned into the wind. It is protected as a monument and is a landmark for the town of Ochtrup. The mill was built in 1848. With the demise of windmills in Westphalia, the Ochtruper mill was also shut down in 1955 until the local history association began the first renovation work on the mill in 1972. Between 1988 and 1992, a thorough renovation took place to restore the functionality of the mountain windmill. Today, windmillers from the Nobbenhuis family are once again working on the mill. The cycle path along the Nordhorn-Almelo canal and the connecting canal is Nordhorn's version of a cycle superhighway. The cycle path stretches away from the roads from the border straight across and non-stop through the whole of Nordhorn. It is also the starting point for the "green cycle path network" in all parts of the city. Several regional and national cycle routes also run along it. Through various expansion and renovation measures, the connection has recently been further developed into a "comfort cycle path". With the completion of the "New Nino Bridge" over the Nordhorn-Almelo Canal, the "comfort cycle path" has been upgraded once again. The connection through the Nino Business Park to the main train station and the city center of Nordhorn has been significantly improved. Right of way throughout! Carefree cycling from one end of the city to the other: Since 2018, cyclists have had right of way on the entire cycle path along the Nordhorn-Almelo and connecting canal. Two intersections have been structurally redesigned for this purpose. A narrowed roadway, speed bumps, conspicuous road markings, clear traffic signs, it is immediately clear to drivers on Heseper Weg and Frensdorferhaar that they do not have right of way in these intersection areas. Traffic on the crossing cycle path must be given right of way. Thanks to underpasses, cyclists have not had to stop at the other intersections along the canal route for many years.

Beautiful church in the shopping street of Ochtrup.

I will take a closer look at the St. Lamberti Church ⛪️ on my next visit. I'm sure you can take a photo or two there

The windows were made by the Derix stained glass workshop in Goch in the style of the Nazarenes. The cycle in the nave depicts the eight beatitudes of Matthew's Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are the meek, blessed are those who mourn, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, blessed are the merciful, blessed are the peacemakers and blessed are those who suffer persecution.
