The lakeside road at Plötzenhöhe on Lake Plau is a particularly beautiful stretch for cyclists. The path runs along the shore and offers impressive views of the southern part of Lake Plau. From there, you can see far across the water to the wooded shores on the other side. The view is particularly spectacular at sunset – the light reflects off the lake, while the treetops are bathed in warm gold. The path itself is lined with ancient beech and pine trees, and small clearings open up every now and then with views of the shimmering water. A perfect place to stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery – whether with a camera or simply with your eyes.

We were completely enchanted. You turn and suddenly this beautiful old chestnut avenue opens up in front of you. In spring, when the chestnuts start to bloom, it will definitely look great too.

The lift bridge was built in 1916 to replace a wooden drawbridge. In 1945, the bridge was saved from being blown up.[1] In 1991/92, it was repaired and in 2020/21, a basic overhaul was carried out, including the installation of new drive technology.[2] A remote control was also implemented, taking into account the monument protection. Until this renovation, the lock keeper, who operates the lock at the "Hühnerleiter" a few hundred meters downstream on the Elde, had to ride his bike to the bridge in order to control the bridge directly from the wooden house. Boats pass under the 13-meter-long bridge, which is a listed building, when leaving Lake Plauer and heading for the Elde.
