Every now and then a ship passes by

Beautiful monastery directly on the Stepenitz. Here you can experience and enjoy the Stepenitz, which was declared the river landscape of the year 2024/2025 by the Friends of Nature Germany and the German Anglers Association, in its original power and visit the impressive monastery.

It now belongs to one "investor", but you can move into the castle.

Of the Marienfließ monastery, the oldest Cistercian monastery in Prignitz, today only the monastery church remains, which is used as a parish church. In 1829 a wooden ceiling was installed and a new roof turret was installed. In 1900 the interior was renovated. The church is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

South of Parchim, in the landscape protection area of the Ruhner mountains, the town of Mentin is located directly on the motorway. Here, on the edge of a small valley, rises a monumental representative mansion. The estate was owned by the von Pressentin family at the end of the 19th century and later came into the possession of Rittmeister Arthur Poensgens, who probably also commissioned the construction of this building. In the years 1912 to 1913 the so-called "Mentin Castle" was built in the Baroque style with Art Nouveau elements according to plans by the architect Paul Korff. In 1916 the Neuerburg family from Hamburg acquired the estate. After World War II, the manor house served as a children's home until 1996. From the manor house, a flight of stairs and subsequent spacious garden terraces lead to the extensive park, which is unfortunately overgrown today. After 1996 there were plans to set up a hotel with an automobile museum in the manor house. This plan was abandoned and in 2007 the building was still empty. The mansion was renovated in 2013. After a brief use as a museum, the mansion is still empty and for sale (as of 08/2021). Very nice way from the lock to small Niendorf

is a neo-Gothic, single-nave brick building with a fieldstone base, which was last consecrated in 1873 and has small extensions with side entrances on the north and south sides. According to the weather vane, the wooden tower on the west gable, offset to the side, dates from 1733 and has three bells.
