The lakeside road at Plötzenhöhe on Lake Plau is a particularly beautiful stretch for cyclists. The path runs along the shore and offers impressive views of the southern part of Lake Plau. The lift bridge was built in 1916 to replace a wooden drawbridge. In 1945, the bridge was saved from being blown up.[1] In 1991/92, it was repaired and in 2020/21, a basic overhaul was carried out, including the installation of new drive technology.[2] A remote control was also implemented, taking into account the monument protection. Until this renovation, the lock keeper, who operates the lock at the "Hühnerleiter" a few hundred meters downstream on the Elde, had to ride his bike to the bridge in order to control the bridge directly from the wooden house.
