Many fishermen once settled in Gemünden, as fishing was apparently extremely lucrative here. A fountain here at the fish market is intended to commemorate the abundance of fish and the times when the square was still a fish market.

The ice cream parlor also serves good Italian espresso! Otherwise, a visit to the old town is worthwhile, even just for a quick stop.

Route 46 is the name given to an approximately 70 km long section of a planned but never completed motorway between Fulda and Würzburg. Begun in 1937 and discontinued in 1939, construction was never completed after World War II, likely due to the division of Germany. Numerous structures in the landscape, such as bridge piers, are testaments to this monument, which is now a listed building. Information panels along the route provide much more information.
