For cyclists on the Tauern Cycle Path or along the Salzach Valley Road, a stop at Café Braun in Hallein is particularly worthwhile. The pastry shop has been in existence since 1912 and is located in the historic Lebzelterhaus, a building with roots dating back to the 17th century. Today, artisanal confectionery, chocolates, and seasonal specialties are still offered here, keeping traditional Salzburg baking alive. Cyclists can not only recharge their batteries during a break, but also experience a piece of Salzburg culture and tradition – a perfect combination of exercise, enjoyment, and history.

A very beautiful fountain

The Anton Neumayr Bridge in Hallein spans the Salzach River and connects the districts of Burgfried, Gamp, and the old town. During a comprehensive renovation between 2021 and 2022, the bridge was modernized and significantly improved, especially for bicycle traffic. It received a dedicated, clearly marked cycle path and a widened sidewalk, significantly increasing safety and comfort for cyclists and pedestrians. Today, the bridge not only offers a functional and safe crossing over the Salzach River, but also a particularly beautiful view of the old town, the Pernerinsel Island, and the striking panorama of the Barmsteine.

The Spitalbrunnen (Hospital Fountain), also known as the Bürgerspitalbrunnen or Elisabethbrunnen (Elisabeth Fountain), located in Bürgerspitalplatz (Hospital Square) in Hallein, is a historical monument situated in front of the former Bürgerspital (Citizens' Hospital). It consists of a square basin made of Untersberg marble with a red marble surround and is dominated by a square fountain column in the center. At the top of the column is a statue of Saint Elizabeth, created in 1659 by the Salzburg sculptor Christoph Lusime. The figure depicts the saint holding bread and a jug, symbolizing her benevolence. The Bürgerspital was formerly an important hospital and almshouse, which is why the statue of Saint Elizabeth also represents Christian charity and social welfare. The fountain is a popular spot in Hallein's historic old town and a fine example of Baroque fountain art.
