It is the oldest and largest stone bridge in Schleswig-Holstein. The stone bridge over the Schmalfelder Au was built in 1785 because a wooden bridge that had been stretched over the small river at this exact point 82 years previously was too prone to repair. It would have had to be rebuilt every 20 years to keep up with the increasing traffic.
