Known in recent centuries as Wildbad, since 1997 only with the suffix "Bad" (Bad); the village develops to the left and right of the Gastein Waterfall; the Gasteiner Ache falls here in three stages, 341 m deep; the location of the village center on the steep slopes, constrained by high mountains, has led to numerous multi-story buildings, especially imposing hotels – mostly from the Belle Epoque – as well as generally quite narrow streets (colloquially also referred to as a "skyscraper village"); the difference in elevation in the village center alone, between the spring gardens and the train station, is 80 m; today a center of summer and winter tourism in the Gastein Valley.

The Filialkirche Unser Liebe Frau (also known as Liebfrauenkirche or simply Frauenkirche) is a Catholic church in Bischofshofen, which was used as a "people's church" or parish church for the local population after the current parish church of St. Maximilian was temporarily used as a monastery church. Standing on a terrace just above the village, its origins can be traced back to the 10th/11th century.

The Cella Maximiliana is the predecessor of today's parish church in Bischofshofen, the mother settlement of the Innergebirg region. Built in 711/12, at the same time as the Nonnberg Monastery, the church acquired its present appearance in the mid-15th century. Today, it forms a single architectural unit with the town hall of Bischofshofen.

View from the higher Roman road of the St. Rupert Mission House (used as a private missionary high school) against an impressive mountain backdrop. It dates back to the foundation of St. Arnold Jannsen, the founder of the Steyler Missionaries, in 1904. It was used as an emergency reserve hospital during the First World War. A neo-baroque church was added to the multi-winged building between the wars. It was used as a military hospital until 1945. The school was rebuilt in 1946.
