A beautiful view from the local mountain of Görlitz

Insider tip: Saxony's oldest nature reserve, located in a small mountain range with three peaks. Many endemic plants live in the small jungle, which remains beautifully shady and humid even in summer. It's fun to bring a nature guide or plant identification book (even with older school-age children).

At the summit there is a bench and the survey stone.

The best thing is to go to a restaurant. Really cheap.

Due to the lack of 'real' paths, the ascent requires some caution in wet weather. Coming from Jauernick, you pass a really worthwhile information board about the "Historic Gardmessungssäule" on the Schwarzer Berg.

I also think the nature trail is very nicely done, with very well designed information boards. Particularly suitable for a hike with children.

Today they are hardly ever used in their original function, but only technical and historical monuments of a long tradition of craftsmanship: The heavy millstones inside were moved solely by the power of the wind as driving energy and thus, for example, grain grains were ground into flour (so-called grain mills ) or the oil is pressed from (e.g. olive) fruits (so-called oil mills). Thus, these ancient windmills are the best evidence that humans were clever enough to harness the power of the wind for a number of centuries - long before the discovery of electricity and the inventions that followed. So what is celebrated today as modern (so-called green or renewable) energy is basically just the proverbial "old hat in a new guise".

Probably the only surviving cast iron tower... The climb is always worth it. It costs 2 € and goes through a machine... so put some change in it... the 120 steps are rewarded with a great view
