Werneck Castle Werneck Castle is a former residence of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg in the Bavarian market town of Werneck. The Baroque three-winged complex was built between 1731 and 1747 on the orders of Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, based on a design by Balthasar Neumann. From here you have a wonderful view of the Old Saale Bridge. Parts of it date back to the 16th century.

The old, brick-built, round-arch bridges are simply a feast for the eyes, even if they often only serve as one-way streets... never mind... that has style!

The Wittelsbach Jubilee Tower is 33 m high in total, the viewing platform is at a height of 25 m and thus around 245 m above the Saale valley, which can be overlooked from the tower. A lion wearing a crown is attached to the top of the tower. The tower is built from shell limestone, but the lion as well as the portal, the parapet and the dome are made of green sandstone. From 1930 onwards there was also a restaurant next to the tower. However, the first restaurant, built in log construction, burned down in 1933 - probably after arson.
