The vast pine plantations serve as natural coastal protection and for timber production, as well as for harvesting pine sap.

The dense forests along the coast are a great environmental asset. Originally a natural defense against the storms and sand dunes drifting inlands, they are now mostly replaced by pine plantations. Still, nice to bike through green nature and have some shade (at least when the sun stands lower). The smoothly paved bike trail runs parallel to the road but safely separate.
