Braunfels is about 15 minutes by car from Wetzlar and is a fascinating little idyll, dominated by half-timbered houses, on a mountainous hill, not far from the Lahn. Its sights include the Braunfels Castle, the zoo and the historic market square. For me, Braunfels is one of the top 10 sights in Hesse 👍

Braunfels with its historic town center was first mentioned in the year 1246 as "Castellum Bruninfels". The history of the town is closely linked to the history of the castle and the counts of Solms-Braunfels. Some of the half-timbered houses on the flower-decorated market square and at the entrance to the old town offer comfortable overnight accommodation. Here, guests can touch the past. The entrance to the old town and the market square are the backdrop for all kinds of market activity. The exceptionally beautiful and lovingly maintained old town with its small shops is worth a visit at any time of year. After a fire in 1678, the market square was rebuilt. Today there is the tourist information, gastronomy and small shops with a wide range of different goods.
