The very modern church towers over the city. Along with the rest of the complex on the hill, it's worth seeing.

Fascinating landscape. The entire complex is beautifully designed, and everything is connected by paths between the stones (which look like oversized pebbles). The entire area is easily accessible by cable car and offers excellent dining options. There are restaurants and cafés to suit every taste. But there are also plenty of benches and tables among the stones for enjoying your own picnic.

The former 12th-century monastery offers the best view of the city. And the house isn't that expensive.

Historically, the Plaza de la República de Brasil, commonly known as the Market Square, hosted a large market every Saturday. This market was considered one of the most important weekly events in the kingdom and offered a variety of goods, including poultry, grains, fruit, tableware, glassware, fabrics (wool, silk, linen, cotton), and ironwork. Livestock shows and sales were also held, making the Market Square a center of commercial activity. By the mid-19th century, the Market Square became a central location for trade, and in 1854, it was officially designated as the permanent venue for the Pig Fair and the Livestock Fair. Over time, the square developed, and in the late 20th century, a beautiful garden with a fountain and rotunda was inaugurated at its northern end. This garden features a variety of vibrant flowers and shrubs, creating a picturesque

Public fountain in front of the old washing place at the Jardim do Largo República do Brasil in Guimarães. It uses the cool water of the Selho River flowing there. Currently, its function is purely decorative. A few years ago, public water tanks (Tanque Público) were widespread and distributed throughout the city, allowing people to refresh themselves.

The artificial grotto was designed by the Swiss-Portuguese architect Ernesto Korrodi at the beginning of the 20th century and features stone walls, trickling water, stalactite-like dripstones, and a small waterfall. The complex is a photo opportunity par excellence. It is located on a hill next to the church, surrounded by numerous beautiful, well-tended flowerbeds. At the top, an octagonal wooden pavilion awaits, offering a magnificent view of the entire area. Like the railings of the winding access paths, the beautiful little hut is constructed of woven wooden branches.

After the strenuous climb along the Escadórios do Bom Jesus, the first stop is Largo do Pelicano, where you can take a short rest in view of the mighty basilica. The square leads to a fountain crowned with the figure of a pelican tearing open its breast to feed its young with its own blood. It is another symbolic element meant to remind us of the Eucharist, the sacrifice of Christ, who gave his own flesh to feed others. In the past, the pelican was considered a symbol of parental love, as it feeds its young in times of need with its own flesh and blood. Therefore, Christian iconography considers it a symbol of Christ. The complex background to the history and peculiar naming of this square can be found here: https://bomjesus.pt/bom-jesus/largo-do-pelicano-and-waterfall/?lang=en The square was completely redesigned in 2015!
