The Rösberg Castle was probably built in the 12th century. After several changes of ownership, it fell to the electoral chamberlain Gaudenz Freiherr von Weichs in 1629. After the castle was in a ruinous state, his grandson had a new castle built in the style of Rhenish-Westphalian Baroque to the east of the village by master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun in 1731. The property fell victim to a bombing raid on the night of February 27, 1941 and was rebuilt in the 1990s. The (former) castle is no longer a family home, but has been rebuilt and sold (if I may say so: piecemeal) as a condominium.

Augustusburg Castle and the neighboring, much smaller FALKENLUST hunting lodge - as well as the gardens connecting the two buildings (brutally cut through since the construction of a bypass) - rightly bear the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace park is freely accessible (e.g. a few minutes' walk from the Brühl train station), the hunting lodge itself has an entrance fee. What is particularly striking about the architecture is the flat roof, which is completely untypical for a palace building and is primarily used as a terrace: from there the electoral householder and his illustrious guests could pursue their hobby of hunting birds of prey ("Beiz" or "Beize " called).

In 1952, Federal President Theodor Heuss founded “Arbor Day” with a maple planting in the courtyard garden. The Bonn Hofgarten has seen a lot since Elector Clemens August had it laid out as an open-air part of his residence in the 18th century. When the Prussian king founded the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in 1818 and had it moved into the palace, the site became a meeting place for citizens and also a stronghold for demonstrations in the federal capital. Nowadays it is a popular place to stay for students, tourists and locals.

With a front length of around 500 meters, the former electoral palace is one of the longest in Germany.
