A beautiful area. The hike to the Bismarktturm

From the castle, you have a stunning view over the Rhine Valley to the Odenwald. The village has many excellent restaurants, offering everything from home-style cooking to Michelin-starred cuisine.

A beautiful spot with a bench for a break; views of cow pastures, shady in summer; trees all around decorated with butterflies made by the village children.

Even with the new staff, the atmosphere is nice, very cozy, and the staff is friendly. Nice outdoor area. Good food. :-)

Historical kilometer and hour stones in the Palatinate The kilometer stones are a form of distance stone that developed at the end of the 19th century from the older hour and milestone stones. As the Palatinate belonged to Bavaria at the time, the shapes here are those that were common in Bavaria. From 1871, larger stones were planned in the Kingdom of Bavaria at intervals of 7.5 km (German mile). After the mile was abolished as an official distance measure, a distance of 5 kilometers was set for the modified hour stones in 1873. Narrow rectangular stones were placed in between. Starting from central places ("residences") such as Speyer, Zweibrücken, Bergzabern and Neustadt, the kilometer markings branched out in a star shape; in some cases the kilometer markings also begin at the junction with a higher-ranking road. The course of the later federal highways 10, 38 and 272 essentially goes back to Bavarian state roads. The remaining roads with kilometer markers were classified as district roads. The 5-kilometer markers, which are usually tapered, have the number and the word Kilometer facing the road. Distances to the nearest important places are indicated on the side. The style of the "German" writing differs from region to region. The writing field was originally painted white and the writing was drawn out in black. (Text: Rudolf Wild, Annweiler)
