Varlar Abbey, often referred to as a monastery, was a Premonstratensian monastery founded by the Counts of Cappenberg in Münsterland. The monastery, which was converted into Varlar Castle, is part of the Varlar farming community in the Rosendahler district of Osterwick. The community there existed from about 1123/24 until secularization in 1803. The RadBahn itself is a great straight route with a good surface. The highlights are the old signalman's cottages, which have been converted into break stations. I took a long break at this cottage. Sitting in the shade at 33 degrees with a view of the vastness of the landscape. The really well thought-out thing about the houses is that you can park your bike outside of the route and not disturb other bike traffic.
