There is a traditional restaurant right on the dam. It is an ideal place for those staying overnight in the village.

The total filling volume is around 25 million cubic meters. Filling began in 1994. Every year, 3.8 million m³ of water is pumped into the lake from swamp wells in the Inden opencast mine so that it maintains its current level. According to the Aachen city region, this supply of swamp water will be necessary until 2061.

The scenically idyllic Obermaubach reservoir with the highest fish ladder in NRW, water bird breeding area and attractive hiking area around the lake and forest and water trails is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts as well as hikers. Built in 1933/34 by the Obermaubach reservoir water association, it serves, together with the Heimbach reservoir, to compensate for the weekly peak electricity water requirements of the Heimbach and Schwammenauel hydroelectric power plants. Since 1968, a power plant at the foot of the dam has been supplying the RWE grid with an output of 600 kW.

On January 6, 1152, the "Molbach County" was first mentioned in a document. Molbach stands for Mühlbach. This is a man-made canal for the operation of one or more water mills, which suggests that the mill stream between Untermaubach and Obermaubach already existed at that time.

The Obermaubach dam in Obermaubach in the municipality of Kreuzau in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, was built in 1933 and 1934 and serves as a compensating reservoir for the Rur inflows of varying strength and to control the most even possible discharge of water into the Rur.
