Sunday afternoon... After pulling the lever, someone answered and said the gate would be opened in 20 minutes because trains were coming. After the second train had passed, the railway official called and asked if we were still there and let us through. On the other side, they pulled the lever again to announce that everyone was clear of the track area. 👍

Presumably, this call barrier is a special feature. Unfortunately, I had no luck here. The quiet automatic answering machine, which I only heard after pressing the call button for the second time, informed me that opening was not possible due to a technical defect. Apparently, I wasn't the first to wait in vain for the barrier to open, because there is already a footpath next to the level crossing. I checked the situation and nimbly crossed the tracks. However, this isn't entirely safe, as the trains travel very fast there.

Goes downhill well, but is doable

Be careful, if you come directly from Hackelstein you will come across a sign with the inscription "Stone Horse". I assume this refers to the forest section. The "Stone Horse" is about 100m to the right of it on the path above the well-developed forest road. I have correctly stored it on Google Maps.

was a great destination when we were children, and it hasn't changed with our own children

For me, this is the most boring cycle path in our region. Kilometers of straight ahead with no highlights apart from a bridge that makes no sense.
