Steiner Gate "Landmark of Krems" The Steiner Gate is the landmark of Krems and the only one of the four former city gates that has been preserved. The main tower from the late 15th century has a series of inscriptions on the outside, including the motto AEIOU (All earth is subject to Austria) in memory of Frederick III. Three coats of arms from 1756 adorn the city entrance, on the left the one awarded by Emperor Frederick III and still valid today, which shows the crowned double-headed eagle on a black background, on the right the coat of arms of Ladislaus Posthumus, in the middle the coat of arms of Maria Theresa. The installation in the base area by Leo Zogmeyer contains metal cubes with proclamations that remind us of the persecution and extermination of Jewish citizens in Krems after 1938. Outside the Steiner Gate, the area was originally at risk from flooding from the Danube. The demolition of the city walls, which also provided flood protection, was only made possible by the regulation of the river in the 19th century and ultimately by the extensive dam construction south of the old town of Krems as an accompanying measure for the construction of the Wachau railway at the beginning of the 20th century. A memorial stone attached to the inner side of the Steinertor commemorates a flood disaster when an ice shovel flooded the country road in 1573. Behind the Steinertor begins the Obere Landstraße, the pedestrian zone of Krems, which together with the Untere Landstraße has formed the main axis of the old town of Krems since the Middle Ages and leads to the Wiener Brücke with a length of around 700 m. 12月 18, 2023, Spitz an der Donau
Spitz an der Donau is one of the most picturesque villages in the Wachau and an absolute must-see for every visitor to the region. It lies directly on the Danube and is surrounded by terraced vineyards. A worthwhile destination for a tour. You can easily linger here for a while; there's plenty to discover! A very beautiful, tranquil town with several sights. The narrow streets and old Renaissance and Baroque houses take you back to the Middle Ages. The picturesque Town Hall Square is a central meeting place with charming restaurants and shops. The Hinterhaus Castle ruins, a medieval castle ruin, tower above the town and offer spectacular views of the Wachau. Spitz is idyllically situated between the Danube and the famous Wachau vineyards, offering one of the region's most beautiful backdrops. The town is a perfect destination or stopover for a bike tour. The town combines nature, history, and enjoyment in a unique way.

11月 20, 2023, Krems an der Donau Old Town
A worthwhile destination for a tour or a detour off the main route. A pretty, tranquil town with several sights. You can easily linger here for a while; there's plenty to discover. It's worth it! The historic old town – part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the neighboring town of Stein – boasts medieval alleys, baroque buildings, and landmarks such as the Steiner Tor (Stein Gate) and Gozzoburg Castle. Culturally, the Krems Art Mile shapes the cityscape with institutions such as the Kunsthalle (Art Gallery), the Caricature Museum, and the Lower Austrian State Gallery. Economically, Krems is closely linked to winemaking: Numerous wineries, especially known for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, are located around the city. Thanks to its location on the Danube Cycle Path, Krems is also a popular destination for cyclists. A good network of cycle paths makes the city an ideal starting point for tours into the Wachau region and the surrounding Lower Austrian countryside.

7月 11, 2023, Wachau Vineyards Route
The route, with moderate climbs, leads directly through the vineyards. The Danube flows some distance from the cycle path in this section, a little further down in the valley. A magnificent sight, with very, very beautiful scenery. 👌 For me, one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, sections of this route through the Wachau. 🚴🏻♂️👌 A region with a rich and fascinating history. Simply a great tour, a relaxed bike ride while taking in the beautiful views and amazing perspectives. Highly recommended!

The Steiner Tor is a preserved city gate of the city of Krems and is considered the symbol of the city. The city of Krems was surrounded by a wall until the last third of the 19th century. This was systematically razed, and three city gates were also removed. For the 700th anniversary of city rights in 2005, the Steiner Tor was restored as true to the original as possible
