このマルクスドルフの聖堂が奉献されている聖ラウレンティウスは、キリスト教がまだ禁止されていた時代の初期キリスト教の殉教者の一人です。彼は教皇の執事を務めており、異教徒の皇帝ヴァレリアヌスから教会の宝を差し出すように命じられました。ラウレンティウスは3日間の猶予を求め、その間に教会の財産をローマの貧しい住民に分配し、合意した時間が来たときに貧しい人々を連れて皇帝のもとに行き、彼らを教会の宝として提示しました。その後、彼は焼死刑に処せられました。伝説によれば、生きたまま炭火の上で、網の上で焼かれたとされています。この特徴は聖ラウレンティウスの多くの描写で見られます。彼は陽気な気分で、拷問者に片面は焼き終わったので、反対側も焼いてくれないかと尋ねたと言われています。 聖ラウレンティウスの記念日は、聖人暦では8月10日です。
