"Is it always something special for you?" asks presenter Werner Schmidbauer, as he reaches the summit cross crowning the Rabenkopf mountain with Munich pastor Rainer Maria Schießler in an episode of the Bavarian Television series "Gipfeltreffen." I would like to offer his short but succinct answer for the consideration of all who linger before this small, sacred monument: "For me, the cross has always been a symbol of encouragement, hope, new beginnings, and life. That's how my parents taught it to me..."

Energie Steiermark is positioning itself as a renewable electricity supplier and is investing around 58 million euros in a large-scale wind farm project in the Deutschlandsberg district. On the Handalm on the border with Carinthia, 13 wind turbines were built at an altitude of around 1,800 meters. Its rotors have a diameter of 82 meters and have been supplying green electricity for more than 21,000 households since October 2017. The total output is 39 MW, 76 gigawatt hours of green electricity are generated annually. This makes this project larger than any previous wind farm in southern Austria. When designing the wind farm, whose rotor blades have a diameter of 82 meters, special emphasis was placed on sensitive handling of the ecological environment: a total of 150 individual editions ensure special protection from wild animals, birds, bats and the surrounding alpine pastures and forest areas.

Located between Carinthia and Styria, there are countless hiking trails available. You can hike up to 2141m above sea level in the Koralpen massif. In many managed hikers' huts you can strengthen yourself and take breaks. If you want to enrich your vacation with sightseeing, excursions or shopping trips, there are many destinations available on the Carinthian and Styrian sides. A recreation area for young and old where you can enjoy a wonderful time of relaxation.
