One of several beautiful and well-preserved old fountains

The focal point of the town center is the market square, which, with its remarkable town houses and old Franconian half-timbered buildings, exhibits an unusual sense of cohesion and is widely known as the "Festival Hall of Franconia." The market square's crowning glory is the tubular fountain, built in 1727. The fountain column features the goddess Minerva, the protector of local trades. The fountain's frame is adorned with the colorful and historic coats of arms of Brandenburg and Württemberg, as well as the imperial eagle and Feuchtwangen's city coat of arms, the spruce tree. Late Gothic three-aisled hall church with ten bays and polygonal chancel with ambulatory, begun by Nikolaus Eseler the Elder in 1448 and finished by Nikolaus Eseler the Younger in 1499, four outer choir chapels from the mid-16th century and 1728, late Romanesque west tower over five storeys, bell storey and eighth-order with copper dome from 1540/50, sacristy in the unfinished north tower.

Rothenburg is one of the most beautiful towns in Germany. I spent four days here and still haven't seen everything. Highly recommended!

Beautiful and interesting medieval imperial city

St. George's Fountain (also known as Herterich's Fountain) Built in 1446, the market square fountain holds 100,000 liters of water. For over 400 years, an ornate column has adorned the fountain, crowned by the figure of St. George and his dragon. Don't be surprised: In winter, it's protected from the cold by a glass facade. Fun fact: A replica of the fountain figure can be found in the German Pavilion at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Definitely worth a visit: You'll get a fantastic photo opportunity here when the half-timbered houses of the market square are reflected in the fountain water.
