Seeburg Castle consists of a four-storey main building, a castle chapel and a defensive wall with four round corner towers.

This beautiful building from the 15th century once served as the administrative headquarters and country residence of nobles. Today the private university Schloss Seeburg is located here. You will also find a Kneipp facility and an audio guide station for the Seenland Pilgrimage Trail here.

Europe's pepper trade with India began with the discovery of the sea route by Vasco da Gama in 1498. The Suez Canal did not yet exist, the dangerous route ran around the southern tip of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope. Ships often went missing, a tremendous loss of life, ship and valuable cargo of pepper and other exotic spices. In 1680, Johann Anton Kaufmann, then a tradesman in Salzburg, bought a ship that was long overdue. He prayed to St. Anthony - and lo and behold, the ship entered Venice. He was now a rich man, bought the Söllheim estate, expanded it into today's baroque palace and built a chapel next to St. Anthony. The pastor lived in the house next to the chapel, today's Restaurant Pfefferschiff. The highlight is not far from the Ischlerbahn route.

From the Wartenfels you have a wonderful view of the entire area and the short walk is definitely worth it 👍

Wartenfels Castle was built in 1259 by Konrad von Steinkirchen together with his son-in-law Konrad zu Kalham. Little can be said about the earlier appearance of the castle, as the windows that exist today were only created during the renovation. Because of the danger that existed for visitors to the old walls, the ruin was restored in 1981, whereby the historical correctness was not too important.
