Very simple walk, not demanding except for the initial climb for those who are really not very fit, highly recommended tour in my opinion

The Morasco dam is an artificial dam that originates the lake of the same name located in the upper Val Formazza, with a surface at an altitude of 1815 m above sea level. The dam was created in the 1930s by the Edison company to generate electricity for the valley by submerging the town of Morasco, a town of Walser origin inhabited since the 15th century. Morasco was the main inhabited center of the valley at the time of the construction of the dam and was now uninhabited in the winter months but was instead populated in the summer months corresponding to the mountain pasture period at high altitude. The dam is 564 meters long and 55 meters high. It has a maximum capacity of 18,400,000 m3 of water, of which 17,000,000 are actually usable. The water is then used to produce electricity in the Ponte power plant.

Attention marching time is of course not 40 min but approx. 3 hours.

The name comes from the fact that many Habsburg soldiers drowned here when trying to escape. By the way, there is a lot of hustle and bustle here in the summer. Crowds of cars and especially motorcycles (with their smelly two-stroke engines) make this place an unreal place in a barren alpine landscape.

The lake is dammed by a planted earth dam 155 meters high and 540 meters long. At its base the dam is 700 meters wide. A total of 9.3 million cubic meters of material was used. The dam can be visited. On this tour you take the funicular. The ride on the old winch railway is very adventurous and an experience.
