very beautiful in all seasons

Only a few kilometers long and still quite immodest, the Rotten River is located here, very close to its source on the Rhone Glacier further up. The hiking trail down (or up) to Oberwald runs very close to the river, which is more of a mountain stream here.

The upper section, where the path leads out into the valley on a rocky step in the middle of the rock face, is very impressive. However, the path is wide enough and should be manageable in dry weather without any problems, provided you don't mind the abyss to the right of the path.

In 2009 I was on the Trift suspension bridge for the first time. The retreat of the Trift Glacier is significant if you compare the photos from my tour back then with the more recent photos. The glacier tongue came down almost to the lake.

Note that all the bridges are removed in winter and the signs as well

Beautiful valley framed by mountains and a dreamlike nature

On the Gommer Höhenweg there are always deep valley cuts which are not forested because avalanches often fall there in winter. However, the paths are usually sufficiently wide and secured and the bridges are in good condition.
