The Leitha is a river in the eastern region of Austria, flowing through the federal states of Lower Austria and Burgenland and emptying into the Little Danube at Mosonmagyaróvár in Hungary. The Leitha is about 180 kilometers long and is formed by the confluence of the Schwarza and Pitten in the municipality of Lanzenkirchen. The Leitha is a tributary of the Danube and has several smaller tributaries such as Mühlbach, Fischa, Komitatskanal and others. The Leitha was historically an important border between Austria and Hungary, as well as between Cisleithania and Transleithania in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Leitha is also a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and fishing.
