Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. From Kornmarkt to Molkenkur there are modern carriages, from Molkenkur to Königstuhl you drive in a nostalgic carriage.

The Heidelberg mountain railway is a combination of two funicular railways. The "Molkenkurbahn" runs from the Kornmarkt, past Heidelberg Castle, to the Molkenkur. There you change to the "Königstuhlbahn". The upper mountain railway is the oldest funicular railway in Baden-Württemberg. In 2004, the upper mountain railway was entered in its entirety as a cultural monument in the monument book of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Unfortunately the train was closed. But it has to be a mega experience.

Was open today and a stunning view. But even if I'm not afraid of heights... that's really high and wobbles quite a bit. Despite almost zero wind and I alone up there. But the view... WOW! 👍
