A listed building with beautiful frescoes

After a year of construction, the renovated, listed station building and the new tourist information building were opened in 2017. Since then, the building has housed the Tourist Information Office and the Ruhpolding Tourism Association. The station building was inaugurated on August 17, 1895, when the first train ran on the local railway to Traunstein, connecting Ruhpolding to the main Rosenheim-Salzburg line. The extension of the railway to Reit im Winkl and then across the border to Kufstein, planned around 1880, was never realized. Only a narrow-gauge line to Reit im Winkl, the State Forest Railway, was built in 1922.

The town hall of Ruhpolding was built in 1922 under Mayor Bartholomäus Schmucker. The rich facade painting, featuring typical Upper Bavarian Lüftlmalerei (window painting), was added in 1925. To this day, it makes the town hall a model of Alpine architectural style. Ruhpolding, the largest municipality in the Traunstein district with an area of 148 square kilometers, currently has a population of almost 6,300 in 72 districts.
