The town of Liedberg lies on the north side of the island mountain of the same name, Liedberg. This is designated as a nature reserve and is the oldest natural and cultural monument in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The quartzite hill was formed over a million years ago and, at up to 84 m above sea level, is one of the highest elevations on the left bank of the Lower Rhine in the lowlands of the Lower Rhine Bay. Stone tools from the Paleolithic period have been found here. Continuous settlement and use of the area has been confirmed since Roman times.[2] On the Haag, the wooded top of the hill, the 18.50 m high defensive and residential tower (mill tower) and the former Electorate of Cologne Liedberg Castle are a defining feature of the landscape.
