There is an information board in the palace gardens detailing the palace's eventful history. All that remains of the last new palace building in 1888 is an archway and the remains of a concrete foundation, after the buildings were demolished in 1979/80 as part of the GDR's border security measures.

There have been various castles on this site since the 13th century. The last building was leveled to the ground by the GDR border troops in 1979/80 for reasons of border security.

When we were here, it was unfortunately closed, but it was an exciting location.

Anyone who visits the Biosphaerium Elbtalaue can expect not only an aquarium landscape, a beaver facility and an exhibition all about the biosphere reserve with many interactive elements, but also a lookout tower that offers a view of the floodplain. It only costs €2 to enter and it's really worth it. As an integrated part of the overall system, you reach the viewing platform after a good 90 steps at a height of 20 meters. The modern steel construction was installed in the historic tower stump in 2002. This approach affected the historical substance as little as possible. The height of today's tower is based on the historical height, as far as it can be read from old drawings. The origins of the tower probably lie in the second half of the 13th century. Over the centuries it may have served as a defense and prison tower, but also to control the shipping on the Elbe that was within sight. After all, it was time to collect the Elbe toll.
