Nice rest area

All buildings are located on the early medieval castle complex of Kesterburg. However, excavations have provided evidence of a very early Celtic settlement in the area of the ramparts and the entrance was located here.

A resting place with two highlights that are close to each other: the castle and the suspension bridge.

Everything is perfect at this rest stop: the view, the location, the sun and the Orke nearby. Unfortunately, it should have been free :-)

Reckenberg Castle, Reckenberg Castle is a castle-like manor house, built on the remains of a former moated castle, in the winding and rocky Örksche Schweiz valley of the Eder tributary Orke in what is now the municipality of Lichtenfels, Waldeck-Frankenberg district, northern Hesse (Germany). The castle, together with its associated farm buildings, is part of a privately owned estate and is not open to visitors.

Hessenstein Castle is now a youth hostel with individual educational programs.

Another adventurous bridge! And the break area in front of it was also nice and inviting!

The cellar castle was first mentioned in 1227: Widukind I. von Wittgenstein and Battenberg received the cellar castle from Landgrave Heinrich Rasphe IV. The castle has been uninhabited since 1463, at times food was stored. Described as intact in the village hall book of the Upper Principality of Marburg in 1577. After the castle was abandoned in the following centuries, the basement castle was demolished. The valuable building material was used to build houses, walls and streets in Battenberg. The restored, 17 meter high castle hill tower, remains of the enclosing wall and the moat have been preserved.
