The artificially created waterfall was created in devotion to the alpine journey of Duke George I of Saxony-Meiningen. It pours from a granite rock 10 m into a romantic forest pond. Above you can see the Swiss-style Sennhütte.

The Pleß had been a princely hunting area for a long time when the hunting lodge “Pleßhaus” was built approx. 1 km north of the summit in 1866/67 and this later developed into a popular restaurant for excursions. In 1921 the first wooden observation tower was built on the summit. It became dilapidated and was replaced by a stone tower in 1936 (Wiki).
