Hülshoff Castle is a typical Münsterland moated castle that was first mentioned in a document in the 11th century. Its name most likely derives from the noble ministerial family Hüls (Hulse) zu Kleve, the presumed builders of the castle, who descended from the Counts of Tecklenburg.
