First mentioned in 1230 as the bailiwick of Paffendorf, this Renaissance-style moated castle is completely surrounded by water. Today, a brasserie invites visitors to enjoy coffee, cakes, and light meals. These can be savored either in the stylish interior or in the castle courtyard overlooking the park. The courtyard also serves as a venue for concerts and Christmas markets. The 7.5-hectare castle park delights visitors with its expansive water features, ancient sequoias and ginkgo trees, a stone pavilion, and numerous seating areas that invite relaxation.

The Forum :terra nova is located directly at the Hambach opencast mine and offers a breathtaking view of the largest lignite mine in Europe. The facade represents the colors and structure of the layers of earth from the opencast mine. In addition to gastronomy, the forum also functions as an event location and offers, for example, concerts (“Music with a View”), exhibitions and readings. Thanks to the spacious outdoor terrace, playground and e-bike charging stations, it is ideal for a long break.

Very nice route along the Erft.

The Erft is always a good choice for a beautiful bike tour.

The Erft is a 106.6 km long, southwestern and left tributary of the Rhine.

The trip to AltKaster took us along the Erft. The bike paths are well developed and it's just fun to ride so close to the Erft. Very scenic.

Great route and hardly any car traffic
