At Riedensee, several viewing platforms invite you to experience the impressive natural beauty of the Baltic Sea coast up close. From here, you have a sweeping view of the lake, the dune landscape, and the sea. Nature lovers and photographers especially appreciate the platforms, as they offer ideal observation points for migratory birds and other animal species. Even at sunrise or sunset, a fascinating panorama unfolds from there, impressively highlighting the tranquil beauty of the nature reserve surrounding Riedensee.

No matter which direction you arrive in Krakow am See, the observation tower on Jörnberg welcomes you. The observation platform of the now 28-meter-tall tower is located almost 100 meters above sea level. Visitors who climb the tower's 126 steps are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of Krakow's glittering lake labyrinth. After the first wooden observation tower was built on the same site in 1897, a new reinforced concrete structure followed. The Bismarck Tower, erected in 1907, was made of reinforced concrete by a Rostock company. It reached a height of 13.40 meters up to the observation platform. For many years, this tower served as a center of attraction for Krakow's citizens and visitors. It was later demolished as a result of the war. The Nebeldurchbruchtal valley is highly recommended. The paths lead through moorland, along streams, and sometimes cross them in adventurous ways (a wooden walkway with only a single handrail). Unspoilt nature awaits, before Lake Krakow opens up with its less crowded bays and shoreline paths.

Riedensee, a nature reserve on the Baltic Sea, is one of the last beach lakes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that still exists in its original state. Only narrow dunes separate it from the Baltic Sea. A breach allows the salt water of the Baltic Sea to mix with its fresh water, which it is fed by streams that originate in the Kühlung. When there is a storm from the northwest and especially the northeast, it and some of the neighboring pastures and meadows are flooded with Baltic Sea water. The mixture of fresh and salt water, also known as brackish water, determines the fauna and flora of the unique nature reserve, which is partially fenced off for protection. For nature-loving hikers, a visit to this area is a journey of discovery.

The special feature of the quiet village of Kägsdorf is its fine, sandy, pristine beach in the heart of the Rieden nature reserve, which is exempt from tourist tax year-round. Here, you'll not only experience wonderful bathing days in the summer, but also experience unique natural wonders in the fall and spring. The romantic setting at the tip of the Rieden nature reserve invites couples and families to enjoy a unique picnic, complete with sunset.

Located in the middle of the beech forest are these fish ponds, which belonged to the Althof and Doberan monastery estate.
