Worth seeing. Wanzleben Castle

Model of the Bastion: When visiting the Cleve Bastion, you can view the 25 square meter fortress model until November, daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The model was made from oak wood in great detail on a scale of 1:100 and shows the southern area of the former Magdeburg fortress with the cathedral district. The medieval defensive tower "Turm Cleve" is the central element here. In 1709, the Cleve Bastion merged with the former "Rondell Gebhardt", which dates back to the siege of Magdeburg in the Thirty Years' War. Now the "Rondell Cleve" reinforced the "Bastion Cleve" in front of it. The bastion has a gun gallery from 1530/40 and a powder magazine, which was later used as a wine cellar. The area of the "Bastion Cleve" was filled in when Hegelstrasse was built. Since 2007, the bastion has been uncovered again and is open to the public for viewing. The castle belonged, among others, to the parents of the later tsarina, Catherine the Great. The castle grounds themselves are not accessible. However, the area in front of them also offers rest areas. On Open Monument Day (every second Sunday in September), individual rooms of the castle can be visited from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Since 2022 there is no beer, no bed or food here. The castle is closed until further notice.
