We hiked here from Garmisch Partenkirchen, a good 14 km there and back. The waterfalls are impressive. The power of the water, and there's no entrance fee. It's a highly recommended excursion :-)

The path leads over 29 footbridges and bridges and several stone stairs through the wild Almbachklamm near Marktschellenberg. Even a tunnel is crossed. At the foot of the Untersberg, the Almbach has formed a deep gorge in the terrain. The path through the Almbachklamm is three kilometers long. Very worthwhile destination, nice path to the waterfall and the view from the bridge is great. If you go up to the top you can see the hole in the wall from which the water comes. Depending on the amount of water, the water also comes from several holes in the mountain wall.

Anyone can climb up to the first waterfall without hesitation. Even with children. However, to complete the Josefstaler waterfall circuit, I recommend sturdy shoes, as the path is very well trodden and very slippery, especially in damp weather.

The lying waterfall with its stone setting was created by the well-known Munich designers, the landscape architects Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (one of the fathers of the English Garden) and Andreas von Gärtner in the years 1813-15.
