It is not so common for a Christian place of worship – which encompasses the whole of heaven – to be dedicated to “ALL SAINTS”. Usually it is one (or occasionally two) named saints who hold the patronage of a church – and thus usually also of the parish or town in which it is located. But to find the origin of such a dedication, one has to go far back in history, because the model for this practice of dedication to ALL SAINTS can be seen as a pagan custom, according to which there were already central temples in pre-Christian times that were dedicated to all deities (PANTHEON). The probably most famous Pantheon, formerly a pagan temple and now a Christian place of worship, is located in the Italian capital.

This part of the Clarendon Way passes along an old roman road between Buckholt and Middle Winterslow. The terrain is generally ok, but can be muddy in winter! The Clarendon Way joins Salisbury and Winchester over 24 miles.

Narrow, scenic little path

Stroll through the picturesque Church Copse & Hound Wood near the village of Farley in Wiltshire. The woods and grasslands feature beautiful oak, beech, hazel, and ash, which provides habitat to a wonderful variety of wildlife including deer, fox, and a range of bird species.

This is a beautiful Grade I listed, 13th-century church situated in the idyllic village of Farley. The church is Gothic & Norman inspired and features some lovely features including stained-glass windows, a wooden roof, and red-brick exterior.

Located here are the remains of a medieval palace built by Henry II in the 12th century. The palace was a favourite residence amongst British monarchs and was known for its beautiful gardens and for being the site where the Constitutions of Clarendon were issued in 1164. The palace was destroyed during the English Civil War in the 17th century, but its ruins can still be visited today
