The Landwehr Colony is a mining settlement belonging to the Zollern Colliery in the Dortmund district of Bövinghausen. The Zollern Colliery was established as a model colliery for the Gelsenkirchen Mining Company.

The Dortmund Theater was founded at the end of the 19th century on the initiative of industrialists and art enthusiasts. Starting in 1887, they raised funds to build a municipal theater in the tradition of earlier commercial theater and music performances. The theater building on Hiltropwall opened in 1904 and was destroyed by bombs during World War II in 1944. The current opera house of the Dortmund Theater was built between 1958 and 1965 and opened a year later. The large dome, made of concrete arches, a steel and glass facade, and copper roofing panels, is impressive.
