Thornton Reservoir is a small area of water situated on the edge of the National Forest in a peaceful and picturesque location. It offers a network of trails and footpaths around the reservoir and through the neighbouring woodland areas.

Bagworth Heath Woods is part of the National Forest and contains a variety of planted woods and grasslands. The main paths are easy to follow and mostly flat

Bagworth Heath Woods is composed of woodland, grassland, heathland, lakes and ponds. It is a great place for wildfowl and aquatic plants. The area is a reclaimed colliery site and a pit wheel sits on an island in the centre of the largest pool as a reminder of the site's industrial past.

Old Thatched Inn, or ‘the Thatch’ as locals call it, is a traditional country pub with a distinctive thatched roof in Stanton under Bardon village. A popular watering hole since 1845, the pub continues to offer a warm welcome with a range of cask ales and good pub grub. There have been quite a few ghostly happenings over the years, though, so do keep a look-out for extra special visitors.
