The history of the pub dates back to 1685 following a devastating fire of Sicklinghall. The Scott family, principal land owners in the area built the inn as part of the rebuild of the village a benevolance which carried on into the 19th century when among other things they built the village school.

Several"No cycling "signs have been fitted at the ring road entrance in the past but they are always vandalised and removed by people who presumably think that cycling should be allowed. This causes conflict between cyclists and walkers which is unfortunate. Some sections of the path can get quite overgrown and narrow.

Rode through from the ring road, no signs posted from my direction, followed the route and at the gate on the Shadwell side said it said no cyclists, a very rude woman walking her dogs nearly knocked me over as she would not let me pass until the last second, they need signs on both sides, but there are plenty of other cycle tracks so I’m not the only one who’s gone through.

Great ride around the new and cycle friendly ELOR. Great facility for cyclists. It crosses 3 main roads that give access to Leeds and leads on to the old outer ring road which gives easy access to Roundhay and Chapel allerton

Cuts the corner off so you don't have to ride so far along main road - bit of off road and normally see loads of deer

New road section with a wide smooth tarmac cycle path. You can pick up existing bridleways and has some new gravel options. The route still has some work to be done but it's suitable for road bikes.

Getting up high without really even leaving Leeds. And that means a good downhill run back into the city.
